Launch of the F4 Indian Championship, Indian Supercross Racing League, and OK-J

Motorsport in India has kicked into a higher gear with the launch of the F4 Indian Championship (F4IC), Indian Supercross Racing League (ISRL), and OK-J Category

Indian Supercross Racing League (ISRL)

June 1 marked the launch of the CEAT Indian Supercross Racing League at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. The launch event was graced by actor Arjun Kapoor, who unveiled the collaboration of ISRL and the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI). With CEAT Tyres as the Title Sponsor and Toyota Hilux as the Official Vehicle Sponsor, ISRL is set to commence its inaugural season later this year, in October, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. This will be followed by events in Mumbai, Pune, and Ahmedabad until December 2023.

Co-founder and Director of Supercross India Pvt Ltd. said that “the launch of the CEAT Indian Supercross Racing League (CISRL) is a significant development of India’s motorsports and automobile industry.”

Actor and avid Supercross fan, Arjun Kapoor added that the league “will host the world’s finest riders battling it out on our home soil but have also paved the way for future generations to embrace the thrills and joys of Supercross.” Read more about this launch event on their website.

Formula 4 Indian Championship (F4IC)

On June 16, Dutch team MP Motorsport announced a multi-year deal with Racing Promotions Private Limited (RPPL) as the exclusive Technical Partner for the Indian F4 Championship (F4IC) that will start later this year. The Chairman of RPPL, Akhilesh Reddy, hopes this Championship will promote local talent from India as well as the wider Asian and Southeast Asian regions. MP team principal Sander Dorsman said that the team’s “expertise and experience of participating in championships around the world, a world-class workshop, and some of the best technical personnel outside of Formula 1 gives [them] an advantage in delivering RPPL’s vision of a sustainable yet affordable motorsport eco-system in India.”

Meritus Cup and OK-J

The Meco Motorsport Meritus Cup season kicked off in Bangalore on the 24th June weekend. For the first time in India, the series introduced OK-J engines and Exprit Chassis for the Junior Category drivers whilst Micro-Max and Senior category of drivers raced using Rotax engines. The real cherry on top: winner of the Meritus Cup receives a nomination for the prestigious FIA Karting Academy Trophy; one that has seen Charles Leclerc, George Russell and Esteban Ocon as its former Academicians.
