FRECA: Deligny & Kato make impressive FRECA start; Yamakoshi and Jem bring in points

The Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA) season kicked off in Misano last weekend with a strong 26-car grid. This year, nearly half the grid (11 out of 26 drivers) are of Asian origin, bringing in a strong representation for the region.

Enzo Deligny

Enzo Deligny had a strong and consistent first round. In Qualifying 1 (Group B), he secured sixth (P11 overall), demonstrating consistency. Qualifying 2 (Group B) saw him take second (P4 overall), maintaining competitive speed. In Race 1, starting P11, Deligny climbed to 10th, holding position with steady pace and no incidents, earning 1 point. In Race 2, from P4, he finished fourth, showcasing despite the safety car periods.

Taito Kato

Taito Kato had a strong showing throughout the weekend. In Qualifying 1 (Group B), Kato secured fourth (P7 overall), showcasing consistent pace. Qualifying 2 (Group B) saw him take seventh (P14 overall), maintaining competitiveness despite grip challenges. In Race 1, starting P7, Kato climbed to fifth, holding position with steady pace and no incidents, earning 10 points. In Race 2, starting P14, he advanced to 11th, demonstrating resilience. Kato’s consistent performance, especially in Race 1, marks a promising FRECA debut for him. 

Akshay Bohra

Akshay Bohra had a relatively strong weekend where he qualified 7th in his group, and maintained pace into Race 1, finishing 9th. Bohra’s performance strengthened in the second part where he qualified 5th for Race 2, but finished 14th having been caught up in an incident caused by Dion Gowda at turn 10.

Aditya Kulkarni

Aditya Kulkarni’s had a rather challenging weekend. Kulkarni Qualified at 13th Group A after failing to set a lap time and finished 21st at the end of Race 1. Kulkarni went onto Qualify 12th in the second round and was not classified for Race 2, hoping to bounce back in Spa-Francorchamps.

Dion Gowda

Dion began the weekend by Qualifying at 10th position and went onto finish 17th at the end of Race 1. In the second qualifying round, Dion qualified 4th but was not classified after being found guilty of causing a collision with car #31 and #14 at turn 10. Dion’s first qualifying finish however showed immense potential among the rookies. 

Nandhavud “Jem” Bhirombhakdi 

Nandhavud “Jem” Bhirombhakdi delivered a promising performance at the 2025 FRECA season opener in Misano. He secured 10th in the collective test, followed by a strong third place in Qualifying 1 (Group B) and fourth in Qualifying 2 (Group B), showcasing his ability to maintain pace. In Race 1, he finished 12th after a challenging run, but bounced back in Race 2 to claim eighth. 

Enzo Yeh

Enzo Yeh, displayed resilience despite facing a challenging weekend. In Qualifying 1 (Group B), Yeh secured eighth, showing consistent pace in a competitive field. Qualifying 2 (Group B) results placed him midfield, maintaining a steady starting position. In Race 1, starting P16, Yeh finished outside the top 10, focusing on holding position without incidents. In Race 2, he crossed the line in a higher position but received a 10-second penalty for prematurely activating push-to-pass post-safety car, dropping to 21st. 

Hiyu Yamakoshi

Hiyu Yamakoshi qualified P12 for the overall qualifying, P6 within his group. Yamakoshi showcased a good recovery race, eventually finishing at P8 for Race 1. Going onto the second qualifying, Yamakoshi qualified 7th in the group but 13th overall as he struggled to find the confidence to deliver good laps. However the consisten run showcased he had pace and had the potential to be in the Top  while contending with a tight field. Yamakoshi eventually recovered to finish 9th at the end of Race 2.

Jin Nakamura

Jin Nakamura had a challenging weekend. Although he placed 5th in qualifying, he had a DNF in the first race after a contact at turn 12 eliminating two drivers from the race for which he received a penalty. The Japanese driver however, qualified 12th in the second qualifying round and recovered to a top 10 finish, scoring a point, hoping to bounce back for Round 2 at Spa-Francorchamps. 

Ruiqi Liu

Ruiqi Liu had a challenging weekend. Liu began by Qualifying within the top ten, at 9th position indicating he had strong pace but eventually finished at 14th at the end of Race 1. Liu was able to secure another top 10 qualifying finish by qualifying 10th but could secure a 12th place finish. Liu indicated a major cause for struggle came in qualifying due to which the trident driver was trapped in dirty air for the majority of the race, hoping for an improved Round 2. 

Kanato Le

Kanato Le had strong qualifying performances by finishing 4th and 8th in Qualifying 1 and 2 respectively. However, due to being stuck in dirty air, Kanato could secure a 11th place and 16th place finishes in Race 1 and 2, hoping to have a smoother weekend at Spa-Francorchamps for Round 2.
