Akshay’s Breakthrough Win, Recovery Drives from Jin, Kanato’s Podium Near Miss

The 2025 Formula Regional Middle East Championship (FRMEC) kicked off in Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi, with thrilling action overall.


1. Kanato Le

Kanato Le continued to impress for ART Grand Prix, securing back-to-back P4 finishes in Race 1 and Race 2. He came close to a podium in the second race after an intense battle with Badoer but narrowly missed out. His luck ran out in Race 3, where front-wing damage early in the race saw him drop to P15.

2. Enzo Deligny

Enzo Deligny maintained consistency for R-ace GP, finishing P7 in Race 1 before improving to P5 in Race 2. His strongest performance came in Race 3, where he secured P4 after a mid-race battle with Hiyu Yamakoshi and Rashid Al Dhaheri.

3. Akshay Bohra

Akshay Bohra made headlines with a sensational victory in Race 2, marking his first-ever win in Formula Regional. The Indian driver started from pole and delivered a composed drive to take the checkered flag. However, his weekend ended on a sour note in Race 3, where he retired on the final lap following a collision with Cui Yuanpu. He had earlier finished P10 in Race 1.

4. Aditya Kulkarni

Aditya Kulkarni’s weekend was marred by misfortune. After finishing P18 in Race 1, he suffered a puncture on Lap 1 of Race 2 due to contact with Rashid Al Dhaheri, forcing him to retire. However, he bounced back in Race 3, finishing P12 to wrap up Round 4 on a positive note.

4. Alex Sawer & Wang Zhongwei

Alex Sawer and Wang Zhongwei had quiet weekends for Evans GP and Origine Motorsport, respectively. Sawer retired from Race 3 after sustaining damage, while Zhongwei’s best result was P19 in the final race.

5. Jin Nakamura

Jin Nakamura had a challenging weekend, starting P17 in Race 1 due to qualifying issues and finishing P14. He recovered to P10 in Race 2 and delivered a standout drive in Race 3, charging from P26 to P10.

6. Ruiqi Liu

Liu Ruiqi secured his first points finish of the season in Race 3, crossing the line in P8 after struggling in the earlier races, where he finished P19 and P14.

7. Taito Kato

Taito Kato had a mixed outing, finishing P11 in Race 1 and P13 in Race 2. However, the Japanese driver saved his best for Race 3, engaging in a thrilling battle with Matteo De Palo and ultimately securing P6.

8. Hiyu Yamakoshi

Hiyu Yamakoshi displayed strong race pace, making an impressive climb from P20 to P11 in Race 2. He carried that momentum into Race 3, where he finished P5—his best result of the season so far.

9. Cui Yuanpu

Cui Yuanpu endured a difficult weekend, finishing P24 and P22 in the first two races before retiring on the final lap of Race 3 following a collision with Bohra.
