Alex Albon Shines in Imola Thriller as F2 & F3 Talent Battle Through Mixed Fortunes
The iconic Imola circuit played host to a dramatic weekend of racing across Formula 1, Formula 2, and Formula 3.
In Formula 1, Thailand’s Alex Albon delivered one of his most impressive performances to date for Williams Racing. After showing strong form in all practice sessions (P8, P9, and P9), Albon qualified an excellent P7. The race saw him rise through the pack with clever strategy and aggressive racing. A fierce late-race duel with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc ended with Albon running through the gravel on Lap 60, but he bounced back to reclaim the position on the final lap and secure a sensational P5 — his best result of the season.
Japan’s Yuki Tsunoda had a weekend to remember for different reasons. After a heavy crash in Q1 that sent his car into the barriers and flipping over, Tsunoda remarkably recovered to race from the pit lane to P10, scoring valuable points and showcasing resilience under pressure.
In Formula 2, India’s Kush Maini started brightly with P3 in Free Practice but was caught out by a spin into the barriers in qualifying, ending up P13. He couldn’t recover from the setback and finished P13 in the Sprint and P21 in the Feature Race.
Japan’s Ritomo Miyata had a strong qualifying performance to secure P10. Starting from pole in the Sprint due to the reverse grid, Miyata led the opening laps but ultimately fell to P6 after battling against aggressive opposition. He couldn’t replicate that form in the Feature Race, finishing P16.
Formula 3 proved equally tough for Asian drivers. Thailand’s Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak was caught out in qualifying and ended up last on the grid after a trip into the gravel. He recovered to P19 in the Sprint and P17 in the Feature. China’s Gerrard Xie and Singapore’s Christian Ho finished near the back in both races, unable to break into the points but gaining valuable track time in a competitive field.
