Yuey Tan is no stranger when it comes to Porsche’s racing series. The Singaporean had previously competed in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia back in 2019, which included a podium in the Suzuka round. With the final Sepang race on the horizon, Tan shared his story of returning to the thrill of competition through the Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia (PSCI), his early impressions of the potent 992, and the respect he held for his fellow competitors.

Why Tan joined PSCI

Tan's mission with PSCI was clear: shake off the rust of his time away from racing and rediscover his competitive edge. Excitement bubbled as he revealed the unexpected challenge of piloting the 992 GT3 Cup car, a machine demanding mastery of its Michelin tyres and ABS, all without the benefit of prior practice.

You know, it's really nice to come down to this series in Indonesia. A couple of reasons why I've come here. Firstly, I haven't driven in a long, long time.”

So I have had no practice or testing, or anything. I just hopped into the car. Never driven the 992 GT3 Cup car with the Michelin and the ABS. So I didn't really understand how to use the system.

There was a sense of belonging in Tan's presence at the PSCI. Having made Indonesia his home, competing here carried a special significance.

And secondly, I live in Indonesia now. And I have a lot of Indonesian friends.

He then stated that entering the Sepang round was a way to rekindle his love of racing and experiencing the thrill of the Malaysian track once more. However, he originally planned on not doing another appearance after this weekend.

And I thought it would be nice to come to Sepang and just do a few laps. Because I hadn't done it for a long time. And I think that's basically why I'm here.

While the 992 GT3 Cup presented a learning curve, Tan's inherent race IQ surfaced precisely when needed, earning him a podium finish in Round 2.

But in the last three laps of the race, I actually kind of clicked with the car. So I actually think that we're going to go a lot faster today than we did yesterday.

I didn't quite understand how to use the grip at first. But now the grip has come into me. And now it's feeling a lot better. It's a little bit more comfortable.

“Never say never” when it comes to PSCI return

Could Tan be back for more PSCI action? He wasn't planning on it, but the talented drivers and the series’ quality have him reconsidering.

I wouldn't say, never say never, that we're not going to do another race with this championship. That was the original plan.

But it's very exciting to be here. This championship is [of] very high quality. The drivers are very high quality as well.

Tan has nothing but praise for his rivals who took the overall podium in Race 2: Daffa Ardiansyah Budiharjo, David Djaja, and Hu Bo. He tipped them for a good career in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia.

I think the top three guys will do very well in the Carrera Cup Asia. So, although maybe in title it's one step up, I think these guys will all do great.
